The Greenwood Bulldogs host a midseason 6A-West showdown of unbeatens on Friday night.

El Dorado and Greenwood are 4-0, and the winner will take the early favorite’s role for both the conference championship and home-field advantage in the Class 6A playoffs.

Greenwood is ranked fourth overall in the latest FearlessFriday.com poll with El Dorado seventh. They are 1-2 in Class 6A.

Greenwood is also ranked fourth overall in the newest Associated Press statewide poll with El Dorado eighth. They are also 1-2 in the AP in Class 6A.

“We played twice last year,” Greenwood head coach Rick Jones said. “We’re familiar with them and their familiar with us. It will be a tremendous challenge. Obviously, they’re one of the favorites in our league.”

Since being elevated into Class 6A before the 2012 season, Greenwood and El Dorado have met four times with the Bulldogs holding a 3-1 edge. Greenwood won twice last year; at El Dorado in the regular season and at home in the playoffs.

“Everybody that’s played them or seen them, they think this may be Coach Jones’ best team or has a chance to be,” Reed said. “They’re at the top, but in the 6A-West there are two or three of us that are hoping we’re at that level. I do think we have a good group, but Greenwood is awfully good so I think we’ll find out Friday night where we’re at.”

El Dorado has seen about every kind of opponent on the way to its 4-0 start.

“They’ve beaten all kinds of teams,” Jones said. “They’ve beaten Flexbone, Wing-T, Dead-T and Spread, in four games. They’ve played all of them. They’ve seen a lot of stuff on defense this year.”

El Dorado’s win are over Spread-formation Camden Fairview, Dead-T Cabot, Flexbone Magnolia and Wing-T Lake Hamilton last week in the 6A-West opener.

“We have a good group,” Reed said. “We’ve had a couple of years where we’ve kind of been in the middle. I don’t know where we fit yet, but this will be a huge test for us.”

Darius Holly leads the Wildcats at quarterback and has completed 44-of-57 passes for 801 yards and seven scores.

“For us to be good he’s had to have that kind of year,” Reed said. “He’s a good player. He’s made a lot of improvement. He’s always been able to throw the ball. He’s worked really hard.”

Richard Kesee powers the running game with 318 yards and six touchdowns. The receiving corps of KeShun Greene, Taliq Ellis and Shun Levingston have been great targets for Holly.
