MAGNOLIA - El Dorado began its quest for a repeat title at the Magnolia Ball-N in the Break Tournament Thursday in rousing fashion by topping Camden Fairview 8-2 before cruising to a 12-1 win over Warren to advance to the semifinals. The Wildcats (5-4) will take on 5A-South rival Hot Springs Lakeside at 4:45 p.m. today with a spot in Saturday’s championship game at stake. The Rams downed Parkers Chapel 9-3 to advance. The meeting will be the second between the schools with the Rams winning the first encounter last week 6-1 in conference play. After winning the title last year by outscoring its foes 35-3 over four games, the Wildcats won their two games Thursday by a 20-3 margin. In their win over Warren, the Wildcats hit three home runs with Jacob Boshears hitting two homers while Derek Jobe hit a three-run shot in the fourth. A senior, Boshears had a three-run blast in the first and a two-run homer in the third. Shaun York continued his hot streak by picking up two more multi-hit games. Against the Cardinals, York went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. In the Wildcats’ win over the Lumberjacks, the senior was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. York now has seven multi-hit games and at least one hit in all nine of El Dorado’s games. Jared Rhodes also had a pair of multi-hit games. A junior, Rhodes was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI against Camden Fairview before going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs against Warren. El Dorado also got outstanding pitching. Jobe allowed four hits and two runs over six innings of work to beat the Cardinals. He walked two and struck out nine. Boshears finished the game with two strikeouts in a hitless inning in relief. Landen Rainwater, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI against Camden Fairview, was the winning pitcher against Warren. The freshman allowed two hits and a run in four innings. He walked two and struck out three. Tyler Johnson walked one and struck out one in a hitless inning out of the bullpen to finish off El Dorado’s second win of the day.
