El Dorado’s Dalton Perdue said he took his first official football visit on Saturday. That’s all it took. Perdue, a senior-to-be offensive lineman, committed to play at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. “I made it (Saturday). It was an official visit to Dallas. I spent three days down there. I was having a meeting with Coach (Sonny) Dykes. He just asked where we were with my recruiting. I said I really didn’t need much more time to decide. I had already made my decision in my head. This was the place I wanted to be,” Perdue said on Sunday. Asked about the rest of his recruiting trips, he answered, “That was my first one and that was the only one I needed.” Perdue, at 6-foot-7 and 280 pounds, started at left tackle for the Wildcats last season and also saw a lot of action as a sophomore. According to 247Sports, Arkansas State, UCA, Murray State, Louisiana-Monroe, Memphis and Tulane had also offered Perdue. The site ranked him as the No. 124 overall offensive tackle in the nation and No. 11 overall prospect in the state. “He’s come a long way in the off-season,” said El Dorado offensive line coach Kris Borosvskis. “He’s truly his age. He’s not one that’s been held back a year. He has the baby fat coming off of him. He’s starting to fill out more. He’s getting close to a 300-pound power clean and he bends well. He’s understanding how to manipulate his body at 290 pounds. And he’s just going to continue to flourish as he grows into his frame. He’s definitely now out of his awkward phase of not really understanding the tools that he has. I think with the new style of offense that will be this year, we’re going to be a lot more downhill run, we’re going to see him flourish in this type of offense.” Perdue, who said he’d like to study something along the lines of sports medicine, said he’s already setting up his life after football. That played a major role in choosing SMU. “They have a Life After Ball program that’s really good at getting internships with the players after they leave the program,” he said. “He really sets them up for the rest of their lives. And Dallas is also one of the best places to get job opportunities, I would say in the US.” Perdue will remain at left tackle as a senior under new coach Steven Jones. Although he said getting the decision out of the way before the season kicked off wasn’t a big deal, putting the recruiting process in the rearview mirror could be something positive. “I’m excited for Dalton and his family,” Borosvskis said. “I know it’s been a stressful time just trying to figure out where he was going to go and to deal with all that stuff. I’m excited. He’s comfortable in his decision. I think it’s going to be a real good fit for him, moving forward in the future. I’m excited and ready to see what he does in his senior season.”
